Varanadi ghrta is a traditional recipe found mentioned in the text Bhaishajyaratnavali, in the context of vata-Kapha imbalance in the ‘Uttmanaga’ or head. It is a ghee based preparation that has a broad spectrum of applications ranging from sluggish metabolism to headache, sensory neural hearing loss and inflammatory arthritis. It is a potent aid to strengthen the ‘Jatharagni’ or digestive fire in the human body.

Varanadi ghrta has been used by Vaidyas for oral intake (pana), nasal instillation (nasya) and rectal enema (Basti). Due to the ghee base, ghrta preparations are suited for long term use and helps reinforce and sustain the benefits of treatment in the body.

Combination of Varuna (Cretava nurvala), Sahachara (Nilgirianthus ciliatus), Vilwa (Aegle marmelos), Bhadrika (Aerva lanata), Karanja (Pongamia glabra), Chirubilwa (Holoptelia integrifolia), Bhallathaka (Hemicarpus Anacardium), Chitraka (Plumbago zeylanica), Satavari (Asparagus racemosus) etc. in a soothing ghee base.
